KUANTAN: The festive season in Kuantan, Pahang, is set to be more vibrant with the unveiling of a colossal lion replica, measuring 4.5 metres in height and 10 metres in length, at a local shopping centre. The structure is poised to become a new tourist attraction, enhancing the Chinese New Year celebrations in the state.

Pahang Media, in a report on Jan 28, revealed that the construction of the giant lion, which took three months to complete, received financial support from the Pahang State Government, contributing RM10,000 of the total cost of RM40,000.

Sim Chon Siang, Pahang's executive councillor for Consumer Affairs and Human Resources, emphasised the impact of the giant lion in enlivening the festivities and attracting tourists.

"This landmark is poised to draw tourists to capture its grandeur. The replica, specially ordered and imported from China, is a significant addition to our festive decor," he said during the launch event, which also featured a traditional lion and dragon dance performance.

Sim also expressed his hope that the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations would foster joy and strengthen intercultural relationships in the state.

"In the year of the Dragon, we hope that all citizens will live in peace, honesty, and harmony, further boosting our nation's economy," he added.
